Renamed: Election Ommision Commision

You heard it,the EC chairman refuses to resign, but will do so only if the foul up traces back to him. Talk about being thick.

Whether or not he is the root of the blunder and chaos on polling day is besides the point. What draws the ultimate picture is the credibility of the EC's leader and his ability to take responsibility over what happened, regardless of where the fault lies.

Just like us,who point knifes at teachers for not being corcerned about their student's well being,or criticising parents for not bringing up a delinquent child in a more positive and warm way, everyone looks to the person above to take the fault. And it is rightly so, for the fallen person to admit failure and incompetency.

What the EC should have done is concentrate on its core responsibilities, not on petty things such as election posters and banners. After all, the elections aren't a monthly affair, like our tests whereby you just console yourself that you'll do better next month, after screwing up.

And then there's the rush to make everything electronic. e this and e that. The country boasts of Multimedia Super Corridor and what not, when the reality shows more people lining up in frustration along corridors on Polling Day (how about our version of D-Day?). If this is what MSC is about, excuse me while i snicker. Why didn't the polling agents have proper training in contingency planning? I guess you could blame one or two glitches on 'takdir', but was it only a couple?

Yes,we are in the era of science and technology, and by all means things should be made simpler. But have you wondered why that in our father's days this electoral process had minor glitches,if none? It's because the people in charge then were dedicated to their work and took ther responsibilities seriously. They cared about their childrens future and acknowledged that one person does in fact, make a difference. Even national exam papers didnt have careless mistakes like what seems the norm these days. Now its a miracle if there aren't mistakes in exam questions.

Hows is a party's logo misprinted? No one checks what comes back from the printers? The people in this country never fail to amaze me. Look where our 'Malaysia Boleh' slogan has left us; a shameful election process that has reveled many inconsistencies and lack of ethics. While I'm at this, I have to add that I've been made aware that there were clerks who were taking down IC numbers of voters upon directions from 'orang atasan'. How far does this allegation claim to be true, I would like to know.

I recently turned 21 was eager to vote this year. But with the exams 2 months ago and anticipating the way Malaysians work, I decided to give it a miss and did not register as a voter. And seeing what happened last week, I have no regrets. It's heartening to see some citizens who had the dilligence to shuttle forth between places, trying to rectify confusions regarding names and polling stations. I wish I knew where this persistence came from, because I would have just gone back after the first stop. And after thrashing the people on duty, of course. I quote a Malay lady who was interviewed on TV, "Balik rumah cuci kain, lagi senang".
